Question for JavaScript devs Scripting News(cached at November 4, 2016, 11:33 pm)

I've got a bug on the home page of Scripting News.

If you click in a tab, it should bring that tab to the front.

It does that, if you're not pointing directly at the title of the tab.

Here's a tiny video demo.

The problem was introduced recently.

At first I thought it might have something to do with the hamburger icon, but if I disabled it, the problem persists.

My current theory is that it has to do with z-index values.

But I can't see anything obviously wrong there. But I did have to screw around with that for the snap.js stuff. That part of it didn't get disabled. Hmmm.

If you have any ideas, please post a comment here.

Samsung Is Cutting the Note 7's Access To Mobile Networks In New Zealand Slashdotby BeauHD on business at January 1, 1970, 1:00 am (cached at November 4, 2016, 11:04 pm)

An anonymous reader quotes a report from TechCrunch: No one can claim there hasn't been ample warning. The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 saga dragged out over multiple months, encompassing two recalls, several travel bans and then, ultimately, the untimely end for the troubled handset. Even still, some people just have trouble letting go. Starting November 18, Note 7 owners will not be able to connect to mobile networks in New Zealand, courtesy of a joint effort by Samsung and the The New Zealand Telecommunications Forum (TCF) to "blacklist" the device. No calls, no texts, no mobile data. Users will still be able to access WiFi, but the device will essentially be turned into a big Samsung iPod Touch. Samsung New Zealand added that it will work to contact all remaining Note 7 owners twice prior to the shut down, "to ensure they have received adequate notice." It remains to be seen whether the company will take similar action in other markets. "Numerous attempts by all providers have been made to contact owners and ask them to bring the phones in for replacement or refund, this action should further aid the return of the remaining handsets," TCF's CEO said in a statement issued today.

Self-Drive Delivery Van Can Be 'Built in Four Hours' Slashdotby msmash on transportation at January 1, 1970, 1:00 am (cached at November 4, 2016, 10:34 pm)

A self-drive electric delivery van, that could be on UK streets next year, has been unveiled at the Wired 2016 conference in London. From a report on BBC:The vehicle's stripped-back design and lightweight materials mean it can be assembled by one person in four hours, the firm behind it claims. The vehicles will be "autonomous-ready", for when self-drive legislation is in place, the firm said. The government wants to see self-drive cars on the roads by 2020. "We find trucks today totally unacceptable. Loud, polluting and unfriendly," said Denis Sverdlov, chief executive of Charge, the automotive technology firm behind the truck. "We are making trucks the way they should be - affordable, elegant, quiet, clean and safe."

Cloudflare Slams MPAA and RIAA's 'Distorted' Piracy Claims Slashdotby msmash on movies at January 1, 1970, 1:00 am (cached at November 4, 2016, 10:03 pm)

Cloudflare has hit back at the entertainment industry's anti-piracy groups, RIAA and MPAA, which accused the service of helping pirate sites to hide. From a TorrentFreak report:Cloudflare was not pleased with this description, to say the least, and has now sent a rebuttal to the U.S. Trade Representative. The company highlights that it's a legitimate business and scolds the MPAA and RIAA for their misleading descriptions. "The submissions by the RIAA and MPAA present distorted descriptions of services that companies like Cloudflare provide. These descriptions fail to provide the USTR with an accurate description of the true intent, purpose, and value of Cloudflare's services," Cloudflare's General Counsel Doug Kramer writes. The company is disappointed in the industry groups, which fail to mention the efforts they have taken so far to address abuse. "Potentially even more troubling than the RIAA and MPAA's descriptions of Cloudflare's services is their complete omission of Cloudflare's efforts to address the small minority of users about which they complain."
